SAINT ANTHONY'S SHIRTS

St. Anthony's is a high school in Jersey City that is widely recognized as having one of the best high school basketball programs in the country, if not the best. While most succesfull programs are usually highly attended, well funded high schools, St. Anthony's is a poor inner city high school the size of an elementary school with under 250 students that doesn't even have its own gym. The program is run by Bob Hurley, a former probation officer from Jersey City who knows from years of first hand experience what can happen to the youth if no one steps in and provides a platform for them to harness their skills and get out of their neighborhoods. Other than winning, his main mission is keeping kids off the streets and getting them the education they need to survive, all but two of his players have gone on to college. St. Anthony's has been struggling financially for a long time and really needs any help it can get to keep its doors open. We printed a limited run of shirts that will only be available through the online store and ALL profits will be donated to the school, although this will by no means save St. Anthony's, at this point anything will help. It would be a great loss to Jersey City if the school had to close its doors for good. To learn more and donate click here.

The all new RS rims just got in. Made out of 7-series aluminum they have a short sidewall design, similar to our previous LM rims, that is ideal for brakeless riding (there is still enough sidewall to work with brakes though). While the outside may look similar, the internal structure is all new and build up is with traditional lacing now. Available with a brushed finish anodized in black, blue, purple and red. Weight: 15.9 oz

Hudson River Park Trust has decided that only skateboarders and rollerbladers can use this park because of “policy.” We believe this decision has nothing to do with the longevity of the park, it’s design, or the current users of the park. This is pure discrimination against all other users who should have access to this public facility. Thanks to the BMX ride,we can do quite a lot. Hereby,we ask you for some help because we think you are good people who can be authority at times and who may help us.Our friend Mikołaj Stelmach(19 years old) had plans he wanted to fulfil.However,fate sometimes seems to be cruel:-the diagnosis of a cancer of the leg's bone forces the postponement of all those plans.At present in Poland,there are no possibilities of treatment as the only solution is an intensive amputation. However, a real chance has emerged in emerged in the USA, to carry out a surgery that can save his leg.We are appealing all people having some goodwill.We desire to have recourse to kind-hearted people;as money is going to be necessary for the flight,check-ups,surgery and rehabilitation.Therefore,in this connection he needs a massive relief.We are one of the many giving assistance to Mikołaj,but still,this is too little.We are anxious to do something for him.It's a pleasure that we can do something selfess for our friend.We are counting on your help.We have already produced series of charitable T-shirts for Mikołaj.Now,we would like to produce a short film that will help us plug the T-shirts so as to be bought by more people.That way,those people would also have the possibility to help. After having their way with our shipment for the last 3 weeks US Borders and Customs released our order and a bunch of new stuff showed up today. We finally got in our Ledge Wax, it took us a long time to develop the formula for the wax but it was worth it since it works great (and smells pretty damn good also..... coconut). We got in some more clothing for spring including the Fresh Short Sleeve Button Down, Low Polo, Perf Belt, and Perf Wallet. In another couple weeks we should be getting in the GHA Windbreaker as well as a couple of New Eras. One of our spring t-shirts was a little delayed but we got in the 10 Year Tee. NEW NYC SKATEPARKS, NO BIKES ALLOWED

At the end of last summer we were riding in Manhattan when someone mentioned they were building a new concrete skatepark at Chelsea Piers on west side. We pedaled over to check it out, the park was still under construction but there was no guard in sight so we hoped the fence and got to ride for about 40 minutes before we thought we were pushing our luck. Even with it being pitch black the park was still amazing and in my opinion better then any other park in the area. I was not psyched to find out that bikes would not be allowed. Ed Pollio recently contacted someone from the Hudson River Park Trust to find out why bikes are not allowed (READ IT HERE). The reasons given are pretty absurd. Through his conversation he also found out they are leaning towards not letting bikes into the newly proposed skate plaza in Queens which would be really ridiculous.

Garret was out in Barcelona a few months ago, and in this Vital edit of Mike "Rooftop" Escamilla, Garret has a few clips eating a sandwich from his favorite food spot and riding this random mini ramp at a bar called Nevermind. This grant is unique because the project that receives the most votes from the general public is awarded the money. Starting March 1, the public will be able to cast their vote for this project once a day, every day, in the month of March. Chad DeGroot sent over a flyer for a contest that he is throwing and we are sponsoring. I asked him to give me a rundown, this is what he had to say about it...... Pretty much my bike shop with help from my hairy manager James, were running this shit. OSP had a bike session, then with some employee changes we lost it...then with some calls to the city we got a session back. Then with my skatepark, Mesh, closing. i talked them into another session. Its an amazing cement park right near downtown Orlando with huge bowls, spine, hips, and a smaller section with ledges and tons of flow. Were gonna take over for that Saturday and run the BMX jam like we usually do back at Mesh. Stop by and get some prizes, see the vending area which will feature sponsors booth for viewing and purchasing merchandise. Best of all, support a park who is supporting BMX. hope that works... So hit up the contest and check out Chad's new shop.

To celebrate our 10 year anniversary we are re-releasing our first stem. This run of the top load is limited to 300 pieces. It's exactly the same as the original stem but with updated engraving and comes with a flower pot sticker, which is the first ever animal sticker. Happy New Year!! 2010 marks our 10 year anniversary, we have a lot planned for this year and one of the things we are doing to celebrate is re-releasing some of our old shirts. The first one is the OG Logo, which is the first Animal shirt ever. Throughout 2010 we are going to be releasing a new shirt on the first of every month. We are not printing a lot of these and are only doing one run, when they're gone they're gone.

If you can't figure out where to go on your next trip consider China. Osso and I went out there again this past October. There are spots all over Shanghai and almost nothing is a bust. Your going to need someone to show you around though so hit up my man Kane who runs a hostel in Shanghai that caters to riders. The hostel is pretty close to SMP (biggest skatepark in the world) and down the block from the subway which can get you to anywhere in the city. When we were out there The Make crew was staying with Kane for about a month and loving life. Kane showed us all great spots, bars, food, and massage parlors. Hit up Kane and stay at the hostel, guaranteed to have a good time. Kane also runs cnbmx.com which translates all of the English news into Chinese. It's pretty cool that he takes the time to do that and help out his scene. Check out the hostel info below with some photos of all the newly renovated rooms. Banks update: Looks like they will be closing for six months beginning January 15, and then be at least partially rideable through 2014 when all the bridge work is completed. Statement from the DOT: "The Brooklyn Bridge is in urgent need of rehabilitation, and this project is slated to begin in 2010 and expected to finish in 2014. During this time, a portion of the Brooklyn Banks will be closed for use by the contractor. When the storage area is established, more than half of the area currently used as a skatepark will be available for public use. The scope of work for this project also includes painting, which is expected to begin in the winter of 2010. During painting work, the park will be closed to provide the space required for painting operations. After the painting work in this area is complete, anticipated for mid 2010, the park will be reopened with the exception of the storage area. The park will completely reopen when the rehabilitation is completed. DOT has been working closely with Steve Rodriguez, spokesperson for the Brooklyn Banks and the communities that use it, to share this space without compromising the vital reconstruction of the Brooklyn Bridge." 5boro skate company owner Steve Rodriguez has been working to minimize the time the banks are closed, and keep them at least somewhat rideable during the five years the bridge works will be taking place: "I have attached an image called "Project area" which shows the entire area that will be used for "staging"(the grayed out area) during the 4 years. I highlighted in red the area that would be great NOT to have staging in which would allow the banks to be used pretty much as it is used on a regular basis. It's a pretty small space compared to the total project area. I have requested that DOT try to change this area into an area that is NOT used for staging and to me that would be huge."

Between all the video showings, it seemed like everyone in the entire NYC scene had at least one clip shown on the big screen, even BX legend Casio. The Banks to be shut down

This kind of of old news, but needs to be mentioned here anyway. In case you haven't heard, it looks like the Brooklyn Banks will be shut down in the next month or so for about five years due to bridge construction. The Dig site has a link to that article with details from a NYC news source posted last week, along with a few links to a couple of random Animal jam edits from a few years ago HERE. There's also an interesting follow-up to the news article HERE. Check back for info about any upcoming public meetings taking place to help minimize the time the banks are closed off.

We have been working on this site now for months and have finally gotten to a place where we could take it live. We tried to make it really content heavy, with a full ad archive, a ton of riding photos, as well as all of our videos (I'm sure a lot of people have hit up or vimeo account already as we have been building the site). We will try to keep adding more content to keep it fresh. Our dealer page with a full shop list and interactive map should be up in a few days. To celebrate the launch of our site and the release of The Art of Story Telling issue 1 we have limited collabo shirt that is only available through our online store (well you can also get it over at TAOST store). The first issue has a story from Ralph about a spot he used to ride when he was a kid, an interview with Vinnie, and an Animal ad featuring Osso. You can pick up a copy at you local B&N.

Edwin came by the warehouse this afternoon and gave me a copy a Japanese magazine called PEDAL SPEED. They sent him a few copies because they dedicated a couple of spreads to a story on POST to my surpirse they also had a cool little feature on the 2009 winter clothing range. I have no clue what any of it says but the spread looks great. I don't know where you can buy this magazine but if you see it bring it home with you.
